Welcome to Weinerville, a new U.S. territory governed by politicians who screwed up their careers. Each one of them let their little head do more thinking than their big head and as a result, they’ve all been exiled to Weinerville. Here are the current heads of government:

President – Bill Clinton

Vice President – John Edwards

Governor – Arnold Schwarzenegger

Lt. Governor – Eliot Spitzer

Senator – Mark Sanford

Mayor – Anthony Weiner

Weinerville is home to many famous men—Tiger Woods, Jesse James, and Charlie Sheen, just to name a few. The population of Weinerville is growing rapidly and the government is expected to expand. Which politican do you expect to see on the next ballot?

Who Gets The Coffin? Arnold or Maria

The Terminator has become the Terminatee. Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger have separated after 25 years of marriage. Apparently, Maria has been miserable and has been contemplating divorce for a couple of years. Sources say she could no longer deal with his huge ego and womanizing ways. She finally got up the courage to say “Hasta la vista, baby” to Arnold and it doesn’t look like “he’ll be back.”

While discussing John Mellencamp’s upcoming divorce after 18 years of marriage, TMZ posed this question:
If a couple divorces after 20 years of marriage, would you consider the marriage to be a success or a failure? Was it a successful 20 year run that just ran its course or is it a failed marriage simply because it ended?

The Un-Brady Bunch

To blend or not to blend, that is the question. “The Brady Bunch” looked great on TV back in the 70’s, but maybe it’s time to consider other ideas. An article in yesterday’s NY Times highlighted some couples who are taking a less traditional approach toward combining their families after divorce. What do you think?

Who Gets The Coffin? Couples Version

I guess we should call this month “Marriage-is-on-the-rocks-tober”.

Two of the worst stock market declines happened in October—in 1929 and 1987. Is the October curse spilling over to Hollywood? So far this month, four high profile celebrity splits have been announced: George Lopez and his wife, Ann; Mr. and Mrs. Christina Aguilera; Laura Dern and Ben Harper; and the latest, Courtney Cox & David Arquette.

Comedian George Lopez and Ann Lopez were married for 17 years and have a 15-year-old daughter. Ann gave George one of her kidneys back in 2005! Their split appears to be amicable and so far, no mudslinging has occurred.

Songbird Christina Aguilera and her husband, music exec Jordan Bratman, have been married for almost five years and have a 2-year-old son. According to TMZ, Christina is the one who cheated but thanks to a pre-nup, she’ll probably get away cheap.

Actress Laura Dern (“Blue Velvet” and “Jurassic Park”) and musician husband Ben Harper married in 2005 and have two children. Harper cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce papers which Dern was supposedly blindsided by.

Finally, there’s Courtney Cox and David Arquette. It looks like Courtney isn’t David’s favorite “Friend.” After 11 years of marriage and one adorable daughter, the couple has agreed to a trial separation. But now that Arquette has spoken very openly on Howard Stern’s radio show, it seems like the end is near. Arquette revealed that the couple hasn’t had sex in four months. He accused Courtney of having an “emotional affair” with her “Cougartown” co-star, Brian Van Holt and he admitted to an affair of his own.

Addicted to Love

Who would have thought that Robert Palmer and Neil Sedaka were scientifically correct when they sang “Addicted to Love” and “Breaking Up is Hard to Do.” A new research study has shown that break ups affect the brain in ways similar to quitting an addiction like cocaine and nicotine. And just like trying to kick an addiction, the best thing to do is get as far away from the problem and all reminders of it. One of the researchers suggested throwing out cards and letters from the ex. Then it’s got to be a good idea to get rid of the wedding ring in divorce situations. So it isn’t really much of a stretch to say that the Wedding Ring Coffin is scientifically proven to help people get over the emotional trauma of divorce, right?

Divorce, Japanese Style

There’s a new trend in Japan, a society which is big on rituals. Couples can have a divorce ceremony at a “divorce mansion.” The ceremony includes the smashing of the wedding rings with a special gavel. The cost is 55,000 yen (approximately $600). I think each of those smashed rings need a Wedding Ring Coffin!

Affidavit of Love

A young woman I know has been involved with her boyfriend for the past three years. She lives in NY and he lives overseas. She just completed her first year of graduate school and they are now ready to take the relationship to the next level. He’s coming to the States and will be here on a student visa, attending another graduate school. They planned to live together in student housing at the woman’s school. However, since they aren’t married, the school requires certain documentation be filled out in order for them to live together. They must sign and notarize an “Affidavit of Love,” a document which states that they are in love, are in a committed relationship, and they intend to be monogamous. REALLY! I am not making this up.

At first, the idea struck me as a little crazy and kind of comical. An affidavit of love? But then I thought, maybe it isn’t such a crazy idea. Maybe all couples should use a document like this when they decide to be in a monogamous, committed relationship. Would signing an affidavit of love make the decision feel more official, more binding? Would couples take the relationship more seriously? Or would it just be another promise which can be easily broken, like marriage vows?
