So John Edwards had an affair. Big deal—just another politician who let his power go to his (little) head. Okay, some background. John Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married for 30 years. In 2004, Elizabeth was diagnosed with breast cancer. In March 2007, she announced that her cancer had returned and that it was incurable. What’s most interesting to me is that Senator Edwards, while admitting the affair, tried to minimize the damage by assuring us that he became involved with this other woman when Elizabeth’s cancer was in remission. What a good guy. He wouldn’t have an affair while his wife was deathly ill, only while she was in remission.
